Text description provided by the architects. A 150 year old farmhouse located in the rural area between the nature areas of the Veluwe and the IJssel has been renovated and expanded by FARO Architecten bv. More pictures and drawings after the break.
The pavilion represents modern rural architecture: simple, practical and eloquent. Black and white are the traditional colours. The pavilion shows how minimal means can lead to large results. The building leaves a poetic impression of purity. The no-nonsense manner in which this ‘simple barn' has a large panoramic window shows a pleasant openness to conventional styles. This window both invites the landscape in and leads the view outwards. The pavilion has one large space with a wood stove, a kitchenette, bathroom with shower, a bedroom and a loft. The simple and clean design has not been mitigated by unnecessary additions and details.
The main structural element of this pavilion is wood and we like to show it! The pavilion shows how minimal and simple means can lead to large results. The pure feel of the pavilion is determined by the visible showing of the wood structure. The whole pavilion shows and breathes wood. The visible and clean beams, rafters and walls are a design statement. The wood construction and lamellas used for the exterior play with light and allow for pleasant surprises and variations in the interior. This residential pavilion thrives on it simple appearance and apparent simple wooden construction.
